"If you put the psyche in motion, it will heal itself." Gabrielle Roth

Gabrielle has gathered a lot of followers around her, like many founders. Some of these were closer to her, and other less close. A few of these went their own way, some rather soon, others only after having spent decades with her, starting other forms of conscious dance or movement. In that way, Soul Motion started in the nineties, Movement Medicine split off in 2006, and more recently Open Floor, after her death in 2012.

I (Edo) have danced hundreds of hours with Susannah en Ya'Acov Darling-Khan when they still taught 5Rhythms®, before heading off with Movement Medicine, and also with Andrea Juhan en Sue Rickards before they started their own journey with Open Floor. They are solid teachers and strongly grounded by the 5Rhythms®; I have enjoyed dancing with them, and I learnt a lot from them. However, I feel deeply connected with the practice of the 5Rhythms® as discovered and developed by Gabrielle, including the perspective and philosophy, and I feel much less drawn to the alternative paths that those teachers now offer. So I have chosen to spend my time and energy on Gabrielle's original path, like Jonathan and his staff now teach it. Feel free to ask me more about that.

Next to those, there are other individual teachers and other currents offering 'conscious dance', like 'ecstatic dance', 'biodanza' and many more. Before I discovered the 5Rhythms®, I have danced for years with Kaatje Verbruggen, in Antwerp (near to the Dageraadplein). She was an inspiring woman from West-Flanders, who got me moving again (as from 1998) in a safe space, with a big emphasis on grounding. She was born in the same year as Gabrielle, and as far as I know, she enjoys her retirement somewhere in France.
